tres jolie ...

This post is so random ...

Today, I had a trial with one bride and a wedding day bridal service with the another.

In the morning, I had a trial run with a July bride ... the.sweetest.bride.ever.

She had a style in mind, but not really, but kinda. You know how it is ... you know what you love but you're not sure whether or not it will work; or there might be pieces of what you like in one inspiration picture and a section from another. The goal was to mesh it all together

She knew what she liked and didn't like. In the end, we had a bit of trouble with her trial, because the style she really loved couldn't work with her hair length and type. We tried several variations and luckily ended the trial on a good note with a variation which she was happy with. We are going to meet again though in order to get it to be a variation she is truly excited about.

Every time we took out the pins to try a different approach, she felt bad and apologized.  But you know what - she had no reason to apologize to me or to feel bad. It's my job to walk away from a trial leaving the bride with a style she LOVES! So in turn, I would like to give her MY apologies for not finding that style right off the bat. (If you happen to be reading this Ms. Bride, I'm really looking forward to holding another trial run with you and hanging out with you and your girls!)

The second half of the day was a bride, a mom, and a drink at The Windsor Arms!

My second bride of the day was a petite blonde who originates from Brussels. Her quiet and calm pre-wedding prep mixed with her minimalist style mixed a bit more with the melody of her mother and her speaking French, was charming.

Both Mother and Bride were cool, collected and classically European - they both opted for casual but elegant 'dos - Mother wanted a smooth bob with a slight flip and Bride wanted sleek straight hair pulled half back for a '60s kind of vibe.

For makeup, Mother wanted only some base, some neutral shadow and mascara. Let me be the first to say that she didn't need anything else.  She had healthy skin, a natural rosy complexion, and full lips. The Bride wanted a bit more drama with her makeup so we did a classic grey smokey eye.  She looked great (if I can say that about my own work!).

But what will stick with me forever is how Mother and Bride kept asking each other "Oui?" - searching for approval throughout each stage and layer of makeup and hair - and the answer was always "Oui - tres jolie!"

What a pretty phrase, huh?  Tres Jolie ... I've been saying it all day.  In fact, when I went down to the lobby and into the bar at The Windsor Arms (to have a drink of Iced Tea when the job was done), the bartender asked "Everything okay?" and I answered .... wait for it ... wait for it ...

Tres Jolie! (entirely the wrong way to use it, but I seized the opportunity)

start your engines ...

vroom vroom ...

I can feel it in the air already. As the weather starts to warm up, I begin to realize what is just around the corner ... WEDDING SEASON.

Today, I checked my list ... twice ... updated my paper calendar, my online calendar, synced it all to my phone, and took a deep breathe.

It begins ... NOW!

While I had a few weddings between January and now, nothing compares to the whirlwind that begins next weekend.  It's peak season for us makeup artists and the weekends are filled with weddings, trials, makeup and hair appointments for bridal showers and bachelorettes. And even though my calendar looks like a bomb of ink exploded on it - I have to sit back and think about how TRULY thankful I am to all the brides (and their grooms) who have chosen to book with me (and my awesome super fantastic team) for the biggest day of their lives.

I'm wishing each of my brides for 2010 a blissful and happy time of planning, preparing and getting pretty. Can't wait to work with each and every one of you.

Butter There is another great addition coming to The Blush Boutique!

I'm really excited because my shipment from butter LONDON is coming this week.

If you haven't heard of butter LONDON, now the time to get yourself familiar! Their product, 3 Free Nail Lacquers which means: no formaldehyde, no toulene, no DBP.  The brand meshes high fashion colour with healthier nails.

The Blush Boutique is very happy to bring on a select few colours including Yummy Mummy, Tea with The Queen, and Chimney Sweep.  And I didn't forget to bring in some of their Hardwear P.D. Topcoat to keep your pretty colours chip free or some of their Handbag Holiday cuticle oil to keep them soft.

A Simple Sunday ...

I'm sorry ... I'm not posting about a particular "beauty" item today.

According to my big desk calendar where I write the topics for each daily post, I was supposed to write about my New Year's Beauty Wishlist - a list of beauty items that I wanted to treat myself to this year.  However, instead of focusing on my writing today, I got caught up with the best beauty treatment around - Relaxation.

I actually didn't step out of the house today (except to walk BlushPretty Dog). But it doesn't sound as gloomy or depressing as it seems.

I didn't step out of the house today because:

- BlushPretty Boy and I played Rhythm Heaven for 30 minutes on the DSi.  We're having trouble with the table tennis one ...

- BlushPretty Boy, Baby and I cuddled under blankets in our family room and watched Peter Pan ... and then they let me watch Make It or Break It. (Is it just me or do none of those actresses actually have the body of a gymnast.  One of them is super tall!)

- I did laundry, all of it, but without feeling like it had to be done.  More because, the washer and dryer are right outside the family room - it was easy and convenient!

- We cooked our favourite dinner (with stuffing) together. And then we ate it without caring about how messy we were.
We love stuffing.

- I read books to BlushPretty Boy and Baby. (What will I call BlushPretty Baby when he isn't so much a baby anymore??)

- BlushPretty Boy and I did his homework together and research for his penguin project.

- We played Super Mario on the DSi for another 30 minutes.

- I took a nap when they did.

I love lazy Sundays.
