Uncluttered in 2010
I have makeup everywhere around my home.
I have a bridal stash. A fashion editorial stash. A personal stash. An "only for my purse" stash. And even, a stash for when other stashes run out. So, obs, a lot of makeup.
As mentioned in a past Wedding Wednesday post, my bridal kit has become a bit more streamlined because over the years, I have learned what products work and don't work. Same goes for my fashion/editorial kit. What this statement doesn't apply to is my personal stash.
I'm always buying something new. Always. I use it once or twice to create some looks and then buy something else new and use that and then everything seems to get lost in my makeup bag.
For 2010, I resolve to institute a foolproof plan for keeping my personal makeup stash current, clean, and uncluttered.
First, I will start by cleaning out my kit. I will remove anything expired. I will move any colours I am not using but that are still good to use into either my bridal kit or fashion/editorial kit. Whatever is left over is anything that I think I will wear or want to wear.
I will place a coloured sticker dot (available at most office supplies stores) on each item I place back into my makeup bag. Whenever I use an item from my makeup bag, I will remove the sticker. I will do this to every product I use.
In 6 months time, I will review what's in my makeup bag. If it doesn't have a sticker dot, back in it goes. If it does, I have to decide: bridal kit, fashion/editorial kit, or trash.
That's how I plan to keep my personal makeup stash current and uncluttered in 2010.
Try it out (and wish me luck!)

** the idea for the coloured sticker dots is not entirely mine - I got the idea from the book "Unclutter your Life in One Week". The author suggested this idea for all the utensils and kitchen items you think you need but never use. I think the idea is perfect for makeup kits - eyeshadows and sparkly lipglosses are just as tricky as kitchen gadgets!
