Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Colour in Amusing

Chanel I used to wear lip colour all wrong.

When I was a teenager, I had really dry lips - constantly chapped, constantly peeling. But I loved lip colour regardless. I was always wearing lipstick whether it was the right colour, the wrong colour, flattering or unflattering.  (I was young - I was experimenting.)

As you know, if you wear lipstick, keeping your lips hydrated and soft is important.  And I knew that.  I did all that before wearing my lip colour.  I exfoliated, moisturized and hydrated.  But even still, my lips were prone to chapping and cracking.  What I wish I had known then (before all my makeup artist knowledge) is that maybe I wasn't wearing the right formula.  Back then, matte was in.  Matte, matte, matte.  So I wore it - who cares if it only emphasized my condition - I wanted to fit in.

Gosh, was I stupid. (baaa baaa said the sheep)

Obviously, I know better now.  (As you know, I have this site called BlushPretty.com with all this beauty stuff on it).

As the years have passed, I started to choose satin, cream and hydrating formulas but my current favourite is: Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Colour.

While some may feel that satin or cream formulas don't provide the long-lasting colour a matte formula would ... I beg to differ.  Rouge Allure Luminous not only gives a nice even layer of colour with a full dose of pigment, but it lasts throughout the day.  Very wearable, its sits comfortably on the lips, it doesn't slip or slide, nor feel greasy or heavy.  Almost like you're not wearing colour at all.

Now let's address my whole chapped lip issue.  Not an issue with this lipstick.  Like any lip colour, you do lose a bit of moisture throughout the day, but I find reapplying the colour instantly hydrates my lips and softens them a bit.  A much better outcome then applying matte over matte over matter.  It's a very creamy lipstick, so it actually smooths and soothes.

I'm currently wearing Amusing by Chanel.  Loving it.  I also want Comedia and Fatale.  There are approximately 20 shades to choose from - you're bound to find one just for you!

Added bonus: the case.  Love the little "click" it makes when you put it away.  Plus, the compact, all black look - totally chic.

  • ... January 31, 2012 End of January 2012 already? Say what?! Now that we are in the midst of winter, albeit warm and actually quite nice out, I'm in a stage of wearing minimal makeup in order to keep my face looking fresh and clean and opposed to dry and cracked. First, I used plenty of moisturizer to hydrate the skin and once that has sunk in, I applied a selection of Bobbi Brown concealers to the under eye area and around the nose, chin and cheeks to minimize dark circles and redness. Blend blend blend. Then I rubbed in some Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Pale Pink to the cheeks and dotted some onto the lips as well. I topped it off with Bobbi Brown lip gloss in Citrus - a new electric orange gloss from the new Neon and Nudes line. - Stephanie, Ms. BlushPretty

  • … Ardell Half Lashes in 301 and 305 I used to be a big fan of building up the outer lash area using single clusters ... but as of late, it's Ardell's 301 and 305 that sends my brides' (and mine) heart flutter. Using these lashes, I think, gives the exaggeration of a full strip, but the natural "I was born with these lashes" feel. Lash trick: give the glue about 5 to 8 seconds to get tacky before applying to the lash line! - Stephanie, Ms. BlushPretty

  • ... Revlon Illuminance Crème Shadow? This cream based eyeshadow is not like your average eyeshadow. Normally, if you don’t prime your eyes before applying eyeshadow, it can slide right off - leaving little to no product left on the eye. (What's the point then, right?) This cream eyeshadow doesn't disappear or slip or slide, at all. (Yay!) It comes in packs of four different colors but they all go great together. The one that I bought is a nude/neutral set and when I use all the colors together it gives me a natural looking finish. - Alanna D., the intern

I needed to buy a new concealer and I just so happened to be looking around in The Body Shop when the saleslady walked up to me and asked me if I needed help - andof course, being the talkative person that I am - I told her I was looking for a new concealer. She recommended their Pencil Concealer that I have now used every day since making the purchase. It is by far my favourite concealer; it covers any imperfections without looking to overdone or covered up. - Alanna D., the intern

  • ... Medium Shopping Bag Makeup Palette from Sephora. I picked up this small palette of makeup from Sephora during the holidays and it is amazing! It comes with 33 eyeshadows, 12 lipsticks, 4 blushes, and 2 bronzers. When I first bought it, I immediately went home to use the lipstick colors. I mixed a few of them together and ended up with a gorgeous pinkish color with a hint of purple. There are so many colors to choose from to mix and match so the possibilities are endless! - Alanna D., the intern
