There is always one girl out of the bunch who believes their hair can't hold a curl.
Whether its my group of friends, party girls, or a bridal party, the odds are high that one girl will say "I need lots of hairspray - my hair never holds a curl!"
While hairspray can help maintain the life of a curl, there are a couple of other tricks you can use to help create a longlasting curl that will stay throughout the night.
It's important to remember that heat will help mold the hair - whether you want a ringlet, a wave, or a soft curl - and cool air will help set it. When a client wants curls that last all day long, I do either of the following two tricks:
Soft, loose, curls: Once I curl the hair, instead of unravelling it down towards the bottom, I loosen the curl just enough to remove it from the barrel. l maintain the shape of the curl by gently holding it in my hand until it cools. It's time consuming, but once I let go, its a soft wave that's been set.
Tighter more defined curls: After I create the curl, I unravel the curl slightly and wind the same section around my index and middle finger into a pin curl and pin to the scalp - all the while ensuring that I work quickly. I continue to do this until the entire head is covered it pin curls. As a final peice of insurance, I blast with heat from the dryer and let it cool down again. Once the hair is fully cooled, I remove all the pins to unleash bouncy curls.
Try it out and tell me if it works!

** a good working hairspray - one that is meant to help create curls and style by staying flexible - is also helpful!
