A Gray October

It's a moody gray October. One day, its rainy, gloomy and depressing. The next day its sunny and breezy and beautiful. Yeah, it kind of sucks, doesn't it. Can't wake up, can't start your day - gray can sort of muddle up your internal time clock and make you want to stay curled up on the couch!
Not that gray is a bad color all around though. In fact, I love gray. Gray is a great neutral on the eye. It's softer than black and not as everyday as brown or taupe. It can be the base colour and set off lots of other shades from navy to deep pink; or it can be center stage for a look all on its own! So versatile and so necessary in any make-up kit.
So, why not try a little bit of gray near your lashline or blended upward, fading into the crease? Scene, Print, Graphology and Silver Ring are a selection of grays from MAC cosmetics that I use when I think of gray.
Scene and Print are great for a soft, muted look. You can pair it with soft purples to step in line with fall trends. The look is sophisticated and sexy, without going too dark.
Silver Ring is a great way to add some sheen to a smokey eye. Use it around the lashline and inner corner to give your smokey eye some dimension.
Graphology is a very deep gray which is perfect if you want to define your lashline. Either use a slanted brush for a liner effect, or smudge it gently into the lashes. Use it wet or dry - a great way to experiment.
See, gray isn't THAT bad. And don't just stick to MAC Cosmetics. Chanel has a great eyeshadow quad of grays, and Stila has two "ready-to-wear" palettes that are all about gray: try their Backstage Beauty Palette in Red Carpet Look, or pick up the new Smokey Eye Talking Palette in The Platinums. (Stila's palettes come in three or four shades which are all complimentary to each other - so foolproof!)
Happy Shopping!!!
