The Bridal Trial Run…

Whenever we hit the new year, our brides who have booked in their wedding dates for the current year start calling in to schedule their trial runs. In fact, most of January, February and March is just trial run after trial run.

Are you thinking of scheduling yours? If so, here are three things to consider :

  • Pull plenty of inspiration images IN ADVANCE of your appointment. Don’t get into the makeup and hair chair and then start to google “bridal makeup and hair ideas updo curls”. Do the research in advance and be ready with a look for the makeup and hair artist to emulate. Have a selection of styles you love and styles you hate; and don’t forget to try to find a 360 view.

  • Be open to suggestions and know that your beauty team will adjust your inspo to not only suit your personal style and tastes, but also adjust it to fit your skin tone, your hair texture, etc. You have to understand you and the person in the photo are two different people. Adjustments will need to be made!

  • Trust your own gut! This is going to cause a little friction. Unlike shopping for your wedding gown where it’s great to have a crowd, your trial run is the time for you and your beauty artists to get to know one another and more importantly for your artist to really get to know you. Makeup and hair is actually a very personal service. Consider going solo to your appointment. Don’t bring your friend who “really knows makeup”; or the mom/aunt/elder who has really traditional views of how you should look; and don’t bring the friends who are either super-opinionated or too laid back. In the end, too many people dictating or judging will make for a wedding day look that isn’t really you … but a mish mash of what everyone else thinks is you.
